Anja Heymann studied media art at the Academy of Fine Arts Leipzig. After finishing the Diploma of Fine Arts in the field of Installationart and room with Prof. Joachim Blank she continued her artistic activity. Worked until 2013 in the mediation between art and science in the field of workshop design in the Fraunhofer Center for Interna- tional Management and Knowledge Economics. She has been since 2017 Co-founder of the project group FORMATION 7. Her work has been on various levels so far nation- al and international group exhibitions, in the German Historical Museum in Berlin, as seen in the Museum of Fine Arts Leipzig. Anja was receiving the first Working Scholar- ship of the Assotiation for the Development of a JULIANE NOACK Artist Promotion. She lives and works in Leipzig.

Anja Heymann’s works move between material, space and symbol. Textile and sculp- tural works are arranged into a spatial installation that raises questions about protec- tion, reorganization and hope. Works made from everyday materials such as hair and needles embody opposing tensions, between attraction and repulsion, protection and attack, the personal and the strange. The starting point is observation of one’s own surroundings and a precise exploration of relationship dynamics and social roles. In ‹ FRAGIL › this leads to a commitment to hope.

The central work of the exhibition is a flag made of millions of pins. Protruding from a flagpole about twenty degrees into the room, it falls heavily out over the floor. The nee- dles transform the material into a shimmering, defensive surface, a structure made up of countless formations in which vulnerability and protection become visible at the same time.
